Half Head Foils – Short Hair

What the process involves

A typical half head foil service follows a few key stages:

• Consultation to discuss how subtle or bold you'd like the result, and to check hair condition and previous colour history
• Sectioning to isolate the top and side panels from the underneath, which stays in its natural or existing shade
• Weaving or fine slicing within each section, depending on the finish you want
• Foil application, with lightener placed on the sectioned strands and folded to prevent bleeding
• Processing and rinsing, followed by toning to refine the final shade and keep it looking polished

On shorter hair, our stylists often cut foils down into smaller pieces and plan placement carefully around the cut, so the colour sits well without slipping.

Is short hair suitable for foils?

Most short styles above shoulder length, including bobs and lobs, work well with half head foils as long as there's enough length to secure the foil. Very short, cropped or heavily clippered styles may not hold foils securely, and an alternative colour approach might suit better, so it's worth mentioning your current length and style at consultation.

What to expect from the result

Half head foils give brightness and dimension through the areas you see most, the hairline, parting, crown and upper sides, while the nape stays deeper for a natural, multi-dimensional finish. The effect can be as soft as sun-kissed lightening or as defined as high-contrast highlights, depending on foil placement and lift.
